The differences between Buginese and Javanese.

Every culture has difference procedures of marriage. There are so many requirements and ritual that is really different from one culture with another. It is also happen between Buginese and Javanese. Contradicting both of these culture will find a great number of differences.

The first difference between marriage procedures in Buginese and Javanese is about the dowry and requirements. In generally, the bride parents in Buginese require high dowry or precious jewellery for the groom. Aiming of this culture is for showing the social status of two families who will unify in marriage. Thus, most of the groom applicant often has trouble with dui' menre' (dowry). In different case, procedure of marriage in Javanese doesn't require high dowry or precious jewellery. However, most of Javanese parents has high requirements for their son or daughter-in-law, they are bibit, bebet, and bobot that require the groom candidate have good behaviour, he or she is from good family and social status and also they have more knowledge about religion.

Moreover, contradicting between marriage procedure in Buginese and Javanese will deal in how difficult the procedures. Believe or not, marriage procedures in Javanese is one of the complex procedures in Indonesia. There are great number of rituals in Javanese that become important thing in marriage ceremony, they are started from babat, pinangan, siraman, ngerik, midodareni, peningretan, nyantri, ijab qabul, panggih ritual that consist of several rituals, balangan suruh, wijidadi, tampa kaya, dhahar kembul, mertui and it's closed by sungkeman. The complex procedures in Javanese is a little bit difference with marriage procedures in Buginese. The marriage procedures in Buginese is easier and more simple than the other marriage procedures in Indonesia. Indeed, in the ancient of Bugis, there are large number of procedures that become requirement in a marriage. However, as time does sail those several ritual are reduced for efficiency the time. Therefore, the marriage procedures in Buginese right now are only consist of mammanu-manu', madduta, mappettu' ada, mappacci, mappendre', ijab qabul and the reception.

In addition, both of these cultures have different in the process of 'ijab qabul. The process of 'ijab qabul in Javanese forbide the bride to following this process. She should say in the bedroom and wait until the process end. While the process of 'ijab qabul in Buginese require the bride and groom to sit together in a place 'till the process end. Therefore, different process of 'ijab qabul is one of the difference between Buginese and Javanese.

In brief, both of Javanese and Buginese have several differences in marriage procedures. However, we should notice that the meaning of marriage in every culture and every world is for unifying both of two families. Therefore, the several differences between Javanese and Buginesd aren't obstacle case for both of these cultures but it's a mark that Indonesian culture is very various and rich.
